Puglia, Italy. August. Sunday, September 28th 2014
I lived in this town all my life. It’s a real backwater here, nobody ever came until the McAlpines arrived. They employ me now. I was always keen on cooking even when I was really young. My mother taught me. I used to help her in the kitchen.
The food is very simple, but delicious. The climate is very dry but the land is flat and the soil fertile so there are lots of vegetables. Sformato, zucchini, aubergine, Tomato and olives galore! Vegetarian food is part of a way of life here. Of course there is lots of fish. We are right on the heel of Italy so we are surrounded on three sides by sea.
